Serial #: 12599
Scale length: 25" Nut width: 1 13/16"
Materials: Bell brass body; solid one-piece maple neck; bone nut; pearl dot fingerboard inlays. Engraved nickel 3-on-a-plate tuners; nickel stamped tailpiece; spun aluminum cone; maple bridge and cookie.
Notes: Introduced in 1930, the Style O was National's first single-cone guitar. With a 12 fret nickel plated brass body decorated with a fanciful Hawaiian seascape, the Style O was an instant hit. The first 14 fret model debuted in 1935, and by 1937 the Style O was fitted with a solid headstock. Seven decades later, the new National O-14 is a faithful reissue of the 1937 original, with the addition of the graceful volcano-and-palm-tree side motif of the Style 97 tricone.
Player-friendly improvements of the new O-14 include an adjustable truss rod for smooth low action and accurate 16x1 tuners. The tone is sweet, rich, and full of natural reverb, and the generous nut width makes it ideal for fingerstyle play. This example is in great condition, without pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear, and only a bit of normal palm tarnish in the bright nickel plating. An art deco classic from the new golden era of resophonic technology.
Setup: String slots at nut and bridge inspected and recut as necessary; fingerboard oiled; body and neck cleaned and hand polished.
This instrument is strung with medium gauge bronze strings (.013-.057). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
Case: Original plush hardshell case.
