Notes: From his workshop in Camarillo, CA, John Carruthers has been a go-to luthier for professional players throughout Southern california for over half a century. A pioneer of the Electric Upright Bass, Carruthers designed his pathbreaking SUB-1 bass to meet the exacting demands of the traveling perfomer.

The chambered alder body increases resonance and reduces weight, and the solid two piece maple neck is detachable with an innovative single screw fitting, for easy transport in the overhead bin. An active pickup system places piezo elements under each bridge foot, with volume and tone controls ready at the hand.

A costly upgrade, this striking instrument has been fitted with a Barbera BTS transducer bridge, with individual piezo elements for each string, and its own additional 1/4" jack, suitable for either mono or full stereo operation. The aluminum endpin is notched for secure adjustment up to a full 18" in extension as well.

Slim and elegant with its lustrous natural finish, this rare example has been maintained in excellent condition, showing only a bit of finish wear at the top of the peghead. Ideal for the concert stage or intimate practice in the home studio, the SUB-1 is often imitated, and remains a best buy in a true pro quality US luthier built instrument. One only: call now.

Case: Black Cordura padded gig bag.
