Materials: Bookmatched fine grain laminate spruce top; full-depth laminate AAA maple back and sides; 3 piece tiger flame maple neck; solid ebony fingerboard; pearl headstock logo; solid bone nut.
Hardware: Hardware includes hand carved ebony tailpiece and compensated adjustable bridge; bound tortoise pickguard; gold Schaller 16X1 tuners; floating Kent Armstrong Handwound PAF humbucker with volume and tone controls, 1/4" endpin jack.
Notes: In a prolific career spanning over three decades master luthier Bill Moll crafted a line of custom instruments renowned for their meticulous build quality and superlative performance. His guitars have been popular among any number of top performers, and after playing one, it's not hard to see why.
The tops are supported with extremely narrow and deeply scalloped braces of very low mass, designed to minimize interference with the vibration of the soundboard. The backs are zone-graduated to optimize acoustic response. The truss rod in the 3-ply neck is reinforced with bars of nickel plated, cold rolled steel, both to strengthen the neck, and to resist the dissipation of tone and volume away from the soundbox. The result is a instrument of notable projection and clarity, a true acoustic archtop for the 21st century.
A rare Moll 7 String, this guitar is labeled #14 in a series of 50, and was built to exact dimensions specified by guitar legend John Pizzarelli. With a highly flamed, full depth 17" laminate body, the guitar affords enhanced resistance not only to feedack, but to variations in temperature and humidiy as well. Ultra-light and responsive, the guitar weighs in at just 5lb 15oz, exceptionally lightweight for a full size 7 string instrument.
The floating Kent Armstrong Handwound PAF humbucking pickup is rich and faithful to the acoustic voice, and the guitar has smooth low action over a fresh high-precision setup, with a comfy, slightly flattened D profile neck. With handsome AAA flame maple in the body and neck, the guitar has been maintained in superb condition, without playwear, and you'll have to squint hard to find a few faint wisps of incidental checking in the gorgeous original deep amber lacquer finish.
All complete with its own custom molded back fiberglass hardshell flight case built, amazingly, in Moll's own workshop as well. Equivalent to a custom Calton, this rugged case is at least $1000 value in itself. A magnificent creation from a fabled builder. One only: call now.
Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel roundwound strings. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 4/64" to 5/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
