Notes: An acolyte of Guild head designer Carlo Greco in NYC, Brad Nickerson set up his shop in Northhampton, MA in 1982, and relocated to Asheville, NC in 2006, where he maintains an active luthiery and teaching practice. A versatile builder, Nickerson produces a full line of hand crafted archtop, flat top, and solid body guitars, for an enthusiastic roster of performers and recording artists.
Seven string guitars have become increasingly popular over the last several decades, championed by players like Howard Alden, John and Bucky Pizzarelli, Ron Echete and other prominent performers. Since the days of the pioneering George Van Eps however, fans of the low 'A' string have generally had to choose between archtop, nylon string or solid body instruments. This Nickerson FC3 is a rare alternative: a flat top model, with the enhanced sustain and bass response missing in so many conventional seven string guitars.
At barely over 5lb, the instrument is nicely lightweight and well balanced, with a deep warm voice ideal for either finger or pick style play. Graced with striking ribbon-figured mahogany and dramatic elm burl headstock facing, the 14 fret cutaway body offers full access to the entire fingerboard, and is equipped with an LR Baggs active under-saddle pickup system and endpin jack. Lovingly maintained, the guitar is in 100% original condition, with no appreciable playwear, and smooth low action over a gentle D profile neck, with a fresh high-precision setup.
Equally at home with jazz chord melody, bossa nova, choro or other acoustic styles, this versatile guitar is a rare find for the adventurous player. One only: call now.
Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge roundwound strings (.013-.080). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 4/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings.
Case: Original deluxe plush lined hardshell case.
