Notes: San Diego based luthier John Kinnard built an international following for his faithfully crafted gypsy jazz guitars. The Dell'Arte Model 503 is a remarkably faithful replica of Django's most famous instrument. Built in the style of the Selmer Petit Bouche, it is notable for its unusual 4 brace soundboard, like Reinhardt's own legendary guitar. Without the lower bass brace, the design opens up the lower-mids for a somewhat warmer sound than the typical Selmer instrument.
This handsome example from the first year of production is fitted with the long 670 mm scale for maximum volume and punch. With back and sides of striking Indian Rosewood, the body makes a brilliant platform for the solid bookmatched Euro spruce top. With all original hardware including the engraved gold tuners, ebony bridge, and the traditional DR tailpiece with signature inlay, the guitar is finished in a lustrous matte lacquer finish.
The guitar has smooth low action over an inviting, gently flattened D profile neck, and the voice is brilliant and forward, with excellent projection and bark. Apart from a few finish nicks on the lower bout, the guitar has been maintained otherwise without pick, buckle, thumb, fingerboard or fretwear. We are pleased to offer this best buy in a top flight US luthier built instrument, at a price comparable to mass produced Asian imports. One only: call now.
Setup: This instrument is strung with light gauge silvered steel strings, and will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference.
