Notes: Must have been the sawdust in the air. Luthier Dale Unger was raised in Nazareth, PA, and grew up around the great craftsmen of CF Martin and Co. Building his first guitar in 1977, Unger was introduced to archtop guru Bob Benedetto in 1993, and began building the instruments that would become the American Archtop series of guitars. Now, using patterns, molds and designs created by Benedetto, Dale builds instruments that combine high quality construction with admirable affordability.
A full depth 16" Venetian cutaway guitar, the American Dream is built with a custom designed arched body made of thin, lightweight, spruce and maple laminate with attractive flame figure in the back, sides and neck, and handsome bearclaw figure in the bookmatched top. This design produces an unusually handsome instrument that is nicely resonant, but stronger, less weather sensitive, and more feedback resistant than typical acoustic archtops.
With it's compact 16" body, X- braced soundboard, and built-in Kent Armstrong floating pickup, the American Dream is an ideal instrument for the working player who wants an instrument that sounds great through the amp, but can be played unplugged around the house. The neck is gently rounded with a slight U profile, with nicely crowned medium frets over a fingerboard of solid black ebony. All handmade, with sleek clean lines, the American Dream includes premium features like solid ebony hardware and matching Schaller 16X1 tuners. This example is in immaculate, virtually unplayed condition, and offers the opportunity to jump the wait list, and bag a substantial savings to boot.
Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel roundwound strings (.013-.056). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
Case: Original deluxe arched black plush hardshell case.
