Notes: For those of a resophonic bent, the names Paul Beard and Mike Auldridge need no introduction. For newbies to the hound-dog guitar however, Beard was trained as a mechanical engineer, and began hand crafting dobro style instruments in the mid-'80s, quickly gaining renown with his innovative designs, including his open soundwell and hand spun resonator cones. Now with artists like Jerry Douglas, Josh Swift and other top performers on his roster, Beard Guitars has become a preeminent builder of professional quality resonator instruments of all types.
Grammy nominated dobro master Mike Auldridge was a founding member of the Seldom Scene, his highly influential DC based bluegrass band. In addition to performing with music legends like the Country Gentlemen, Auldridge also accompanied artists as diverse as Lyle Lovett and Emmy Lou Harris. A bridge between dobro pioneer Josh Graves and contemporary virtuoso Jerry Douglas, Auldridge's tasteful slide work virtually defined the instrument from the 1970's until his passing in 2012.
Collaborating closely, Mike and Paul debuted the Mike Auldridge MA-6 in 2004, which remains a highly popular model among demanding players to this day. Crafted of deeply figured Finnish birch veneer, the MA-6 features Beard's signature open body design, arched back, hand crafted resonator cone and spider bracket. It's traditional fan pattern coverplate and hearts and flowers fretboard inlay echo classic designs of the prewar era.
This handsome guitar is in 100% original condition, with gleaming tobacco brown finish and chrome hardware, including smooth Gotoh 18:1 tuners. Well maintained, the instrument is crack free, and shows only light playwear, with some incidental scattered nicks on the finish and chrome plating. The voice is brilliant and punchy, with deep open bass, fine natural reverb and exceptional projection: a true banjo killer, complete with its Fishman Nashville pickup system and deluxe original plush lined hardshell case.
Handcrafted in historic Hagerstown, Maryland, the Mike Auldridge MA-6 is where artistry and craftsmanship meet, in a uniquely vibrant and compelling instrument. One only: call now.
