Materials: Hand graduated solid Adirondack spruce top; solid ribbon figured mahogany back, sides and neck; solid ebony fingerboard; curly maple body binding.

Some 80 years after Louis Armstrong' blew high and tight on his 78 of 'Muggles', master luthier Jean Pierre LaPlante re-imagined the classic 'tree-of-life' fingerboard, with the pentatonic leaf pattern of the 'Viper's Dream'. It was a guitar he called simply, 'Autumn Leaves'.

In over twenty years of custom building in his Kingston, Ontario workshop, LaPlante created an impressive array of finely crafted instruments, each reflecting his boldly creative imagination. This striking creation, built for Spanish guitarist Cesar Alarcon, fuses traditional archtop design with distinctively modernistic design.

The full depth 17" Venetian cutaway body features an X-braced Adirondack spruce soundboard with D'Aquisto style segmented sound holes. The back and sides are crafted of intensely figured ribbon mahogany, along with a straight grained mahogany neck. With contrasting binding of deeply figured curly maple, the body is graced with a sound port on the upper bass bout, which echoes the leafy motif continued on the solid ebony fretboard and Macassar ebony pickguard.

At just 5lb 9oz, the guitar is nicely lightweight, with the open design peghead providing enhanced neck balance, on the lap or the strap. With its full size Alnico 5 magnets, the Benedetto B-6 humbucking pickup provides smooth, articulate amplification of the acoustic voice of the instrument, as ably demonstrated by Alarcon in a video demo here.

The full width neck has an elegant D profile, distinctly slim in depth along its length, and easy in the hand, with smooth low action over a fresh high precision setup. Lovingly maintained, the guitar is in 100% original condition, and appears virtually free of playwear.

Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge flatwound strings. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 4/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings.
