Notes: One of the most respected builders in the acoustic guitar world, master luthier Dana Bourgeois has built an international reputation in a career spanning nearly three decades. Creator of the celebrated Schoenberg OM series, Dana has designed innovative prototypes for clients as diverse as Gibson Montana and Paul Reed Smith. Now at his workshop in his native Maine, Bourgeois has returned to crafting exquisite hand built creations for top artists like Ricky Skaggs, Martin Simpson, Ry Cooder, Norman Blake, Vince Gill, David Lindley, Marshall Crenshaw, Jerry Douglas, Elliott Easton, James Taylor and many more.
The Bourgeois Slope D is a tribute to the classic prewar Gibson flat tops, renowned for their clarity, sustain and power. Unlike typical bass-heavy dreadnoughts, the Slope D is built with Bourgeois' signature Single Scalloped X Bracing, for more even balance and a more brilliant treble register. And like the prewar Gibsons, the Slope D is topped and braced exclusively with scarce Adirondack spruce, for enhanced stiffness and projection. At just 4lb. 6 oz. this example is notably lightweight, and the mahogany employed has exceptionally lustrous, even grain, with a gloss finish body and matte finish neck.
This example is in immaculate condition, and sports grained ivoroid binding, vintage brown firestripe tortoise guard, and top-of-the-line antique nickel Waverly tuners with unique grained ivoroid butterbean buttons. Neck profile is smooth and comfortable, with a gentle C profile, very easy in the hand. The tone is simply cavernous, clear and deep, and as open as the Montana skies. A handsome blend of traditional design and precision craft, the Bourgeois Slope D has a voice for the ages, that you can enjoy today.
