Materials: Solid hand-carved figured Honduran mahogany back, sides and neck; solid hand-carved fine grained spruce top; solid ebony fingerboard, solid mother-of-pearl inlays, solid bone nut.; grained ivoroid binding.
Hardware: Solid ebony hardware includes bound pickguard and tailpiece, compensated adjustable Tuneomatic bridge; gold Waverly butterbean 16x1 tuners with grained ivoroid keys, Lollar Low-Wind Imperial humbucking pickup, volume and tone controls.
Notes: Composer, performer, author and clinician, Professor Fred Hamilton is a busy man. A veteran faculty member in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas, Hamilton can add to his credentials the title of distinguished guitar designer as well. Working with renowned Austin luthier Ed Schaefer, Hamilton envisioned an instrument that fuses tone, comfort, and versatility with an effortess playability.
The perfect instrument for the player on the go, the Fred Hamilton Signature has a compact, slimline 14" body, hand-crafted of all solid tonewoods. With a premium tap-tuned carved spruce soundboard and a highly flamed Honduran mahogany body with deep satiny rollers, the guitar is astoundingly light in weight as well. At a scant 4lb 8oz, it 's one of the lightest archtops we've seen, yet is crafted to withstand the rigors of the road.
One of just six examples ever made, the Hamilton's innovative deep cutaway allows free access to the full range of the extended 22 fret fingerboard. The neck has a comfy gentle "D" profile, easy in the palm, and the solid ebony fingerboard has smooth, low action over a fresh high-precision setup. The Lollar Low-Wind Imperial humbucking pickup has a full, saturated tone, highlighting the rich harmonics of the finely graduated soundboard. And the back of the peghead is graced with a handsome facing of tiger flame maple, just because.
This gleaming guitar has been carefully maintained without pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear. Apart from a incidental lacquer nicks, the guitar shows few signs of play altogether.
