Notes: Since 1972 the celebrated luthier Steve Grimes has been making master quality instruments by hand, and building in the process a formidable reputation for his meticulous construction and creative designs. Working from his shop on the side of Mt. Haleakala on Maui, Grimes has partnered with such luminaries as George Benson, Larry Coryell, Steve Miller, Leo Kottke, Keola Beamer and Willie Nelson, to create instruments that fuse elegant craftsmanship with strikingly innovative design.
To celebrate his 40th anniversary as a custom luthier, Grimes created this commemorative presentation grade instrument that combines breathtaking design, ultra-meticulous craftsmanship, and tonewoods of simply spectacular intensity. The Pescatore is a full depth 17" X-braced archtop, whose asymmetric body profile echoes the classic Gibson Florentine mandolin, with extended cutaways on either side of the neck.
The back, sides and neck are carved of tiger flame maple of blinding depth, and bordered with an elegant turquoise hued triple purfling. Graceful offset crescent soundholes are adorned with hand-carved accents in intensely figured curly Koa, which also illuminates the front and back peghead, tailpiece, pickguard, and heel cap, as well as the neck and body binding throughout. The neck has a fine medium C profile, with smooth low action over a fresh high-precision setup, and a generous 1 3/4" nut. The acoustic voice is clear and sparkling, with excellent natural reverb, all captured faithfully by the Armstrong floating Ultraslim humbucking pickup. An additional identical finger rest is supplied, without pickup or controls as well.
The instrument is 100% original, and in sparkling condition. A museum-quality instrument of visionary design, surpassing craftsmanship, and superlative performance. One only. Ever. Call now.
Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel roundwound strings (.012-.054). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 4/64" to 5/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
