Body size at lower bout: 15 1/2" Body depth at endpin: 4 1/2" Scale length: 25 1/2" Nut width: 1 3/4" Neck depth, 1st/10th frets: .84/.86
Materials: Solid bookmatched Ovangkol body; solid quartersawn Sitka spruce soundboard; solid one-piece mahogany neck; solid ebony bridge and fingerboard; multi-ply body binding and soundhole purfling; chrome Taylor/Schaller tuners; Taylor Expression System pickup system with volume and tone controls.
Notes: Ovangkol? Well, you might know it as amazique, amazoué, hyedua, black hyedua, mozambique, or shedua. Just kidding. Known formally as Guibourtia ehie, Ovangkol is an African tonewood relative to rosewood, and famed for its lustrous, satiny figure, and a brilliant tonality similar to Koa. And this guitar proves it in spades.
Taylor acoustic guitars are renowned for their reliability, consistency and technical sophistication, which have made them the standard for working performers for decades. Their popular 416 series has the Grand Auditorium body size, Venetian cutaway, and 14 fret neck to create a versatile guitar equally conversant with a variety of genres, for both finger and flatpick style play.
The generous 15 1/2" body enhances lower frequency response, with bracing specifically optimized for maximum acoustic performance. Finally, the innovative Expression System pickups use all-magnetic sensors for exceptionally accurate amplification and enhanced feedback suppression, with volume and tone controls easily accessible on the upper treble side.
Crafted of all solid tonewoods, this handsome guitar shows striking figuration in its Ovangkol body, and exceptional crossgrain silk in its solid Sitka spruce soundboard. Lightweight and responsive, at barely 5lb the guitar is comfy and well balanced on the lap or the strap. The 1 3/4" neck has a comfortable gentle "D" profile, and a solid ebony fingerboard.
The bad news is this unique model has been out of production for some years now. The good news is this rare beauty's in gleaming condition, with smooth low action over a fresh high-precision setup. An especially attractive performer, and a true best buy. One only: call now.
Setup: Trussrod tension and neck relief adjusted as required; bridge saddle adjusted as required; string slots at nut and bridge inspected and recut as necessary; body and neck cleaned and hand polished, electronics tested and balanced. This instrument is strung with medium gauge phosphor bronze strings. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier strings, according to preference.
