Serial #: 54041, white oval label Nut width: 1 1/8" Scale length: 13 3/4"

Materials: Solid bookmatched hand graduated spruce top; solid hand graduated curly maple back and sides; 3 piece mahogany neck; solid ebony fingerboard; grained ivoroid binding.

Hardware: Original nickel hardware includes gear-over-worm tuners with grained ivoroid keys, original loop-hook tailpiece with vintage correct aged engraved cover, patent stamped grained ivoroid pickguard. Vintage style ebony bridge with bone saddle.

Notes: The A-3 mandolin was introduced by Gibson in 1902, and the 'Antique Ivory' finish made its debut in 1918. The rarest of all Gibson mandolin finishes, this unique color was discontinued along with the model itself in early 1923.

This striking mandolin is an extremely rare example built with a highly figured curly maple body, in contrast to the plainer birch bodies typically seen on this model. Maintained in fine shape, the instrument is free of cracks, with its all original finish showing minimal pick or buckle wear.

The lustrous ivory finish is complemented with all grained ivoroid binding, pickguard bracket and tuning keys, including the original '09 Patent stamped pickguard. The back shows the customary red mahogany finish, which extends to the sides and neck as well. Playwear is generally confined to some smooth thumbwear on the neck, a bit of arm wear on the top, and some scattered scuffing in the finish around the bridge.

Original nickel hardware includes open back gear-over-worm tuners, and ornate engraved tailpiece with vintage correct hand aged cover; grained ivoroid pickguard and bracket. Smooth low action over straight ebony fingerboard with fine original frets, and a gentle V neck profile.

The voice is brilliant and clear, with excellent definition and projection. A rare and exceptionally attractive example of one of Gibson's most eye-catching models, complete with its original black arched plush lined hardshell case. One only: call now.

Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge roundwound phosphor bronze strings, and a fresh high precision setup.
