In the mid-80's, Gibson's new management inherited a proud company with it's reputation in tatters. Wasting no time, company brass hired master luthier Jim Triggs to head up the newly revitalized Gibson Custom Shop. Drawing on his extensive experience in high-end luthiery, Triggs almost single-handedly revived the firm's reputation as the industry leader in archtop guitars, carved mandolins, and extravagant custom creations for Gibson's celebrity clientele.
Working on his own since 1992, Triggs quickly made a name with his superlative recreations of the classic Stromberg and D'Angelico archtops, as well as custom guitars for discriminating players worldwide. Now in partnership with his son Ryan, the Triggs name has become a watchword for custom luthiery of the highest caliber.
Custom ordered by a working pro, this striking guitar has a full depth 16" Venetian cutaway body, topped with solid carved tiger maple of exceptional depth and flame. The back has a handsome two-tone finish on its hollow mahogany body, with a small block to anchor the stop tailpiece, designed to enhance the overall sustain of the instrument. And while players often plug archtop f-holes to minimize feedback, this innovative guitar solves the problem neatly, by eliminating the soundholes entirely.
Well maintained, the instrument has all original hardware and finish, without pick, buckle, thumb, or fingerboard wear. The solid ebony fingerboard has elegant split block inlays, with smooth low action over a fresh high precision setup on the gentle D profile neck, quite comfy in the hand. And as used in the Wes Montgomery L-5, the '57 Classic PAF is warm and full, and notably faithful to the iconic tone of Gibson's treasured bop era classics.
A spectacular blend of traditional design and modern craftsmanship, this innovative guitar is ready to conquer the most demanding venues. One only: call now.
Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel flatwound strings. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 4/64" to 5/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
Case: Original arched black plush lined hardshell case.
