Notes: From their workshop overlooking the River Foyle in scenic County Donegal, Ireland, Emerald Guitars has been crafting a full line of highly innovative guitars since before the turn of this century. Their bonded carbon fiber bodies are molded in a proprietary one-piece design, employing the same advanced technology used in high performance race cars, boats and jet aircraft. Constructed without joints of any kind, the resulting instruments are exceptionally lightweight, acoustically responsive, and extraordinarily resistant to the rigors of the road.

The Emerald X-20 Nylon model is a hybrid design, particularly well suited for bossa nova and fingerstyle jazz, offering a warm rich tone without sacrifice of range, comfort and playability. The 14 fret body and Venetian cutaway allow unrestricted access to the full 24 frets, and the gently radiused fingerboard and slimmer 1 3/4" nut width are particularly suited to the preferences of contemporary jazz and bossa players.

The Baggs Stage Pro Element under saddle pickup system offers precise tonal control with its three band EQ, and advanced feedback suppression with an onboard notch filter and phase switch. And no need for a clip on tuner, with the LED tuning system built right in to the control panel.

At just 4lb. 5oz, the instrument is notably lightweight and well balanced, and features an offset soundport on the upper bout, bringing the instrument voice directly to the player's ear. The beveled corner of the lower bass bout affords additional player comfort, and the premium Schertler 18:1 tuners are as precise as a Swiss watch.

We were quite pleased with the warm natural acoustic tone of the instrument, and particularly impressed with its performance through the amp, remarkably faithful to the nuances of fingerstyle play. This recent example is in gleaming 100% original condition, without apparent wear, and plays flawlessly with a fresh high-precision setup. Gig ready, this contemporary wonder is an excellent choice for the fingerstyle player wishing to capture the expressiveness of the traditional gut string sound, with a notably player-friendly neck. One only: call now.

Case: Original black Hiscox ultralight molded plush lined hardshell case.
