Notes: Luthier Steven Holst has been making fine handcrafted instruments one at a time for over three decades at his shop in Oregon's Willamette Valley, just south of Eugene. With a production of perhaps eight to ten instruments a year, Holst's guitars are not easy to come by, and offer outstanding value and performance.
This custom archtop features a full depth 17" Venetian cutaway body, with all solid hand graduated tonewoods throughout, providing superior acoustic resonance. Of particular note is the dramatic Big Leaf maple body and neck, with bookmatched flame figure of dramatic intensity. At just a hair over 6lb even, the instrument is happily light in weight, and balances nimbly on the lap or the strap, with a sound port in the upper bass side bringing the acoustic voice directly to the ear as well.
100% original, the guitar appears virtually unplayed, and has an remarkably lively, open acoustic voice, with its X-braced soundboard tap tuned to exceptionally fine tolerances. The gentle D neck profile and a solid ebony fingerboard, provide smooth, low action over a fresh high-precision setup, and the Kent Armstrong Handwound floating pickup offers a warm, classic voice with excellent clarity and detail.
Premium touches include the handsome black anodized 21:1 geared Gotoh 510 tuners, the smoothest on the market, and gleaming EVO Gold fretwork. Holst guitars are rarely seen on the vintage market, and new orders can entail a substantial wait. A classic choice for a variety of styles, this handsome instrument delivers peerless comfort, tone and versatility, at an unbeatable price for a top quality US luthier built guitar. One only, call now.
Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel roundwound strings. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 4/64" to 5/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
Case: Original heavy duty Reunion Blues Continental Voyager case.
