Notes: The Epiphone Triumph was introduced in 1932, becoming Epi's most popular professional sized guitar. Designed in the height of the big-band era, the Triumph has always been a favorite for players wanting maximum bang for the buck. Built with the same materials, scale length, and body design as the upscale Deluxe and Broadway models, the Triumph delivers all the sound and feel of the most costly guitars in the line at a fraction of the cost.
This striking postwar example is carved with a with a dramatically figured tiger maple back, and a hand graduated soundboard of solid quartersawn bookmatched spruce. The fingerboard is handsomely figured Brazilian rosewood, with a classic light V profile neck, with smooth low action over a fresh, high precision setup and fine pro fretwork. All binding is original and tight to the body, and both neck angle and bridge height are excellent, with ample room for action adjustment up or down.
The original Epiphone logo tuners are in excellent condition, and the original Brazilian rosewood bridge is stamped with a serial number that matches the label. An original vintage Epiphone bound tortoise pickguard is installed, along with a vintage correct aged nickel Frequensator logo tailpiece, perfectly solid at the bend.
The all original deep sunburst finish shows remarkably little in the way of pick, buckle, or thumb wear, with playwear confined largely to a number of scattered lacquer nicks now touched up on the soundboard. No cracks are apparent in body or neck, and a short section of the back centerseam was soundly resealed long ago. One of the last examples with the graceful prewar snowflake peghead inlay, the fingerboard is also fitted with the rare enamel inlay, seen only on exaples from the immediate postwar era.
At just 5lb 10oz, the instrument is happily lightweight and nicely balanced, with the power and projection to cut through an entire horn section, or the biggest outdoor jam. Of special note is the highly figured tiger flame maple back. This model is usually seen with rather plain maple bodies in thos era, but this handsome guitar is graced with showy curly maple more typical of the upmarket Deluxe or Emperor models.
A true best buy, and an ideal acoustic axe for the working player. One only: call now.
Case: Deluxe arched plush lined hardshell case.
Setup: Trussrod tension and neck relief adjusted; bridge height adjusted; bridge compensation set; string slots at nut and bridge inspected and recut as necessary; bridge foot contour inspected and fit to top as necessary; bridge radius inspected and recurved as necessary; bridgewheels and tuners lubricated; fingerboard and bridge oiled; body and neck cleaned and hand polished.
This instrument is strung with medium gauge bronze strings (.013-.056). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 4/64" to 5/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
