Notes: Since its introduction in 1949, the Gibson ES-175 has been the most popular jazz guitar in the world. The twin pickup model debuted in 1951, and the 175 was Gibson's first guitar to be fitted with the humbucking pickup in 1957. A true classic, the ES-175 remained in the Gibson catalog continuously for almost seven decades, until it was unexpectedly discontinued in 2019.
At barely a fifth of total production, blonde finish examples are rare and particularly desirable, and this striking guitar has been preserved in excellent condition, remarkably free of pick, buckle, or fingerboard wear. The top and back show fine slab cut figure in the arched maple, as well as a rare solid maple neck, in place of the more common mahogany necks more typical of the model.
The 24 3/4" scale is fast and nimble, and the 16" body is easy to cradle and substantially resistant to feedback. With smooth low action over fine original medium fretwork, and a fresh high precision setup, the guitar plays effortlessly with a notably slim, elegant neck profile. A bit of finish wear from a hanger is visible near the nut, and the typical surface-only stress lines near the jack and the cutaway horn may be seen as well.
A special plus is the upgrade Seymour Duncan Antiquity PAF pickup in the neck position. The gold standard of 50's Gibson style humbuckers, the Antiquity is built with vintage correct Alnico II magnets, 42 AWG wire, and wound unpotted on the original winder from Gibson's old Kalamazoo factory. Hand aged both mechanically and magnetically, these pickups were wound individually by Custom Shop manager Marcela Juarez, creator of pickups for Clapton, Harrison, Van Halen, and a host of other Guitar Gods. They deliver the detailed, airy response of the PAF originals, with plenty of growl when driven as well.
With tone every bit as lustrous as its looks, this handsome guitar is the quintessential working jazz box. Do blondes really have more fun? Only one way to find out: one only, call now.
Case: Deluxe lightweight black hardshell case with Cordura covering.
Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel flatwound strings. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 4/64" to 5/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
