Notes: Twelve fret grand bouche Favinos are rare, and this guitar from the early years of Jean-Pierre's tenure is an exceptional example. Built with Favino's long 666mm scale, the extended fingerboard is significantly longer than the typical Selmer grand bouche, adding attack and carrying power unusual in instruments usually relegated to the rhythm section.
Favino's extra deep and wide body is significantly larger than the Selmers as well, enhancing bass response and sustain. Using the materials found in the original Selmers, the Favino has a solid Alpine spruce top and back and sides of highly figured bookmatched Brazilian Rosewood. The Rio has a solid three-piece neck of European maple, whose dark sunburst finish makes a smart contrast to the natural finished body.
This handsome instrument was built for Yugoslav guitarist Slobodan 'Bobo' Cvetkovic, who played in the Radio Belgrade big band in the postwar era, and whose name is inscribed on the label. The voice is woody and complex, with pronounced natural reverb, and plenty of bite. The neck has a traditional full C profile, over fine high fretwork on a solid ebony fingerboard. Apart from some light pickwear under the clear scratchplate, the guitar shows remarkably little playwear altogether. The ultra-light original nitro lacquer finish shows some flaking on the back and headstock, but the instrument shows no cracks or repairs otherwise.
A unique and versatile model from the greatest dynasty of Parisian luthiery. One only: call now.
