Notes: Introduced in 1958, the ES-335TD ("Thin Double-cutaway") cemented Gibson's reputation for cutting-edge innovation combined with classic traditional design. The thin body was easier for players to hold, the inner block enhanced sustain and reduced feedback, and the new PAF humbucking pickups set a new standard for quiet operation, high output, and sweet, fat tone. Small wonder that the 335 became an instant classic, and has remained one of the worlds' most popular electric guitars to this day.
Original examples in natural finish were offered for only two model years, and are so rare they command astronomical prices on the vintage market. This striking guitar is from the very first reissue of the classic dot neck 335: based on the highly regarded 1960 version, its wide, gentle C profile neck profile offers unmatched player comfort and agility, while the handsome birdseye maple body is highlighted with a vintage blonde finish now aged over three decades to a lustrous amber hue.
The upgrade Seymour Duncan Seth Lover humbuckers have long been regarded as among the most meticulously faithful PAF style pickups ever made. Built with vintage style Alnico 2 magnets, the pickups are unpotted like the originals, for a more open, airy tone, with some of the bite of a vintage P-90. Their aged nickel covers match the patina of the original Grover tuners, Tuneomatic bridge and stop tailpiece, and the guitar is fitted with a set of genuine 60's vintage gold Gibson reflector cap control knobs.
The full access 22 fret neck has the compact headstock with its 17 degree angle, with classic Gibson medium-jumbo fretwork still high and in gleaming condition. The instrument has been well maintained, without cracks, checking, pick, thumb or fingerboard wear, and light playwear limited to some minor buckle rash, some scattered lacquer nicks, and a bit of finish wear on the headstock.
With smooth low action over a fresh high precision setup, the guitar plays effortlessly, with the sweet bluesy tone for which this model is justly famed. Complete with its original Gibson logo black plush lined hardshell case, this rare first generation reissue is where Gibson finally started getting serious about true vintage quality again. One only: call now.
Setup: Trussrod tension and neck relief adjusted; bridge height adjusted; bridge compensation set; bridge wheels and tuners lubricated; fingerboard and bridge oiled; body and neck cleaned and hand polished.
