Notes: From his workshop in Cognac, France, Maurice Dupont has been one of the pre-eminent builders of the gypsy guitar revival, and his instruments remain among the most faithful recreations of the original Selmers made today. An elegant example of his work, the MC-30 is a rendition of Mario Maccaferri original 'grand bouche' model of the early 30's.
Lightweight and resonant, the instrument is built with solid rosewood back and sides, as well as the solid bookmatched French spruce top. Resonant and well balanced, the guitar weighs in at just 1.86kg (4lb. 1oz .) and the voice is notably deep and clear, with outstanding volume and projection. The neck is carved of elegant figured walnut, with a wonderfully comfortable D profile, slim in depth and nicely flattened across the back. The instrument has been maintained in fine condition, with all original hardware and finish. A few scattered pick dents are visible on the top, but the instrument is otherwise free of cracks, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear, with fretwork in gleaming condition.
Warm and rich in voice, the guitar has excellent cutting power, and is fitted with a Bigtone bridge pickup and endpin jack. The MC-30 is rarely seen on the vintage market, and new examples can entail a considerable wait. True gypsy royalty, ready to rule over a campfire or a concert hall. One only: call now.
Setup: This instrument is strung with light gauge silvered steel strings. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference.
Case: Original deluxe black fitted plush lined hardshell case.
