Notes: The most coveted Martin of all time, the prewar D-45 model is the pinnacle of the most distinguished line of flat top guitars ever produced. Numbering just 91 examples in all, the original issue D-45 remains unmatched in its combination of tasteful design and incomparable performance. To honor the 200th anniversary of the birth of the company's founder, the CF Martin Company preduced a once-only commemorative reissue of this legendary model, in numbers limited to the original prewar production.
With 30's style forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing, small maple bridgeplate, gentle V profile neck, snowflake inlays, open ended belly bridge, figured tortoise pickguard, original style gold butterbean tuners, toned lacquer, grained ivoroid binding and lustrous abalone purfling, the 200th Anniversary D-28 is the most scrupulously accurate reissue of the prewar D-45 produced to date. The body is constructed of highly figured solid Brazilian Rosewood, the scarcest and most coveted guitar wood ever. Harvested in full compliance with the CITES treaty on endangered hardwoods, this bookmatched set shows dramatic highly figured grain, with highlights ranging from deep purple to cafe au lait. Under strict export embargo since the late 60's, Brazilian Rosewood has skyrocketed in price as old stock reserves have become increasingly depleted over the years. Makers lucky enough to have a remaining stash charge a king's ransom for the material, in the rare event it's available at all.
We are pleased therefore to offer this outstanding instrument, the 5th of the 91 examples produced. Hand signed by CF Martin IV, the guitar is inlaid as well with a facsimile signature of the founder himself, placed between the 18th and 19th frets. Immaculately maintained, this pristine example is 100% original, without pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear, and has low comfortable action over true vintage style fretwork. Best of all, she's loud as a cannon, with the deeply resonant sustain and bell-like reverb for which the Brazilian dreadnought is so justly renowned. With prewar originals fetching a quarter-million or more at this writing, the 200th Anniversary D-45 represents outstanding, and enduring value as well. One only: call now.
Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge bronze strings (.013-.056). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference.
Case: Original Martin deluxe black arched hardshell case with green crushed velvet lining.
